1 Consumables

Consumables include microfluidic chips, reagent cartridges and collection vials. Microfluidic chips and reagent cartridges suitable for Kilobaser are exclusively produced and sold by Kilobaser and its official distributors. Do not use any unauthorized consumables!

1.1 Microfluidic chips

You can get all the information about the available microfluidic chips and their features in the Kilobaser web shop or in the product catalog.

The single-use microfluidic synthesis chips are multi-layer transparent plastic chips containing a single on-chip synthesis column and an array of microfluidic membrane valves. DNA synthesis works by attaching one nucleobase after another in a cyclic process, starting from linker molecules on the column surface. After the synthesis, the linker molecules are cleaved and the DNA is eluted into the DNA collection vial. Since the linker molecules on the column surface are destroyed during cleavage, chips cannot be reused. If an operation is canceled within 30 seconds after start, a chip can be reused.

Chip disposal

Please make sure to mark or discard used chips immediately to prevent accidental reuse! Used microfluidic chips can be disposed of in the general waste.

1.2 Reagent cartridges

You can get all the information about the available Kilobaser reagent cartridges and their features in the Kilobaser web shop or in the product catalog.

The Kilobaser reagent cartridge contains all reagents necessary for all operations. No additional solvent handling is needed. Liquid waste is collected in the waste sections of the cartridge.

em CAUTION
Although Kilobaser's liquid handling system is designed to eliminate user exposure to hazardous reagents, the cartridge still contains dangerous chemicals which can be released by accident or severe mishandling. In case of emergency, please immediately ventilate and clear the area and consult the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and/or customer support for further instructions!

Cartridge disposal

Cartridges must not be disposed of in the household garbage. The used cartridge as a whole should only be disposed of as organic waste containing hazardous substances (nonhalogenated) via authorized companies according to local legislation. The total volume of all the liquids in the cartridge is approximately 18 mL.

If needed, the used cartridge can be taken apart using the screwdriver (included in the delivery) by unscrewing the 5 screws from the bottom side of the cartridge. Separate bottles should be disposed of as specified in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for each substance (Section 13). Bottles without a label should be treated in the same way as KB1. The plastic parts should be disposed of according to regulations on the disposal of packagings.

em CAUTION
The septa on the bottles of a used reagent cartridge are pierced and thus the reagents can leak out in small amounts. Wear protective gloves and safety goggles!

1.3 Collection vials

The collection vials supplied by Kilobaser are high quality 200μL PCR vials suitable for direct use in most thermocyclers, including qPCR appliances. Other vials can be applied at the user's own risk, as long as vials fit into the heated DNA collection port and allow for adequate heat transmission. If you experience any problems like remaining liquid (droplets) or deformed shape, please use vials supplied by Kilobaser.

2 Storage conditions and shelf life

Consumables should be stored in a dry and dark place. Make sure to store the reagent cartridges upright.
